We are absolutely delighted that Ben Taub from Ibogaine Counselling Services is visiting us for the next few weeks to offer in-patient support to our clients. Here’s a bit more about Ben:
“I am an anthropologist who has spent the past 11 years researching the therapeutic uses of visionary plants in both indigenous and western contexts. My first healing experience came in 2007 in Peru, at the beginning of a year-long research trip for my undergraduate dissertation, which examined the evolution of shamanic techniques in the face of a rapidly changing culture. Over the next 12 months I spent time with a number of shamans, taitas and their communities, learning how plants like ayahuasca and San Pedro are skilfully integrated into the fabric of society so that community members are able to attain a sense of belonging and identity through their participation in healing rituals.
This experience inspired me to try and understand how visionary plants may be used in Western society, despite a lack of community participation, ritual and integration. For my Masters degree I spent a year working with people undergoing ibogaine treatment for addiction, and wrote a dissertation examining the social, spiritual and philosophical factors that contribute to a successful recovery.
In the years since finishing my studies I have worked on-and-off at Harambe Ibogaine Retreat in Spain, offering guidance and counselling to those undergoing treatment. I’ve also worked as a writer for IFLScience – where my specialisation was consciousness and psychedelics – and as a communications officer at the Beckley Foundation, helping to spread the word about the latest research on psychedelic therapy for mental health.
In January 2018 I teamed up with Anders Beatty and joined Ibogaine Counselling Services, providing pre-and-post-treatment guidance to people undergoing ibogaine therapy for addiction worldwide.”
